Old and abandoned building. College in Shushi

Real Shushi College, founded in 1881, at the home of Movses Bek.
The college was built by Gregory Martin Arakelov from 1901-1908.
The college year started in September, ended in June, and the holidays were in July and August.Children under the age of 7 could be admitted to a college. The number of students in each department should not be more than 50. Each teacher kept a separate record keeping notes of students’ daily progress, laziness, and disorder.

Public examinations were organized at the college, with senior city officials present.Physical punishment teaching was also applicable, one of the former students of the college wrote in his memoirs that hard work and beatings were at the core of the college’s work. The student could not come to the lesson; severe beating was also applied when absent.
As of 1896, the school had 298 student, 236 of whom were Armenians, the rest were foreign nationals.
